ORLANDO, Fla. ? Long Island State University defeated the Fighting Sioux tennis team 6-1 this morning in Orlando, handing UND its third straight loss during its spring trip to Florida.
The loss dropped UND's record to 9-5 on the season, while LIU improved to 2-4.
Senior Katie Wessman (Fargo, N.D.) picked up the lone UND victory in singles competition. She defeated LIU's Dara Lahens 6-2, 3-6 and 7-6 in No. 5 singles.
Junior Molly Maurer was the only other Sioux who avoided losing in straight sets. The Hutchinson, Minn., native fell to Stephanie Elie in No. 4 singles by scores of 5-7, 6-1 and 7-6.
Maurer teamed with senior Emily Callison (Mesa, Ariz.) to earn a victory in No. 2 doubles, defeating Elie and Amy Hosotsuji 8-6.
UND will continue its Florida swing tomorrow morning against Coastal Carolina.
