GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota head golf coach Dan Frei announced today that senior Dustin Steiner and sophomore Tyler Monda have been named team captains for the 2009-10 season.
Steiner, a native of Fargo, N.D., was named the team's player of the year in 2008-09 after placing 13th at the Great West Conference Championship last spring. During the fall season, he recorded a team-leading 74.5 stroke average. He was also named to the 2009 Great West All-Academic Winter/Spring Team.
"Dustin has been the leader of the team for the past several seasons and is our only returning captain," said Frei. "I expect him to have a great year. Our team will only go as far as Dustin leads us."
Monda, who is from Brainerd, Minn., earned All-Great West Conference honors as a freshman after tying for 10th place at the conference meet. He was also named UND's Newcomer of the Year.
"Tyler may only be a sophomore, but he has proven himself as an extremely hard worker," said. "Whether on the course, at the range or in the weight room, he is always giving 110 percent. I am looking for great things from Tyler."
