GRAND FORKS, N.D. - We've hit the midway mark in the 2010 University of North Dakota Sioux Strong campaign and the support from UND alumni, current student-athletes and coaches, the university, and most importantly, Grand Forks and the surrounding area is already evident.
Heading into October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sioux Strong has hit the halfway point with $10,900 raised, a great start as we work towards our goal of $20,000. All dollars raised will be donated to the Altru Cancer Center to help raise awareness through education and to provide mammograms for those who are unable to afford them.
And there's still plenty of time to donate and become a part of Sioux Strong.
On Sunday, the Fighting Sioux women's hockey team will kickoff this month's special events as they take on top-ranked Minnesota-Duluth in the Pink Ribbon Faceoff at 2 p.m. at the Ralph Engelstad Arena. The team will show its support by wrapping pink tape on some of the equipment, including their sticks. Fans are encouraged to wear their Sioux Strong t-shirts to the game.
Haven't gotten yours yet? Sioux Strong shirts will be available at the REA and are free with a $10 donation to Altru Cancer Center.
Here's a list of the remaining Sioux Strong special events planned for this month:
- Oct. 14 :: Dig Pink Game
- o UND volleyball vs. South Dakota - 7 p.m. (Betty Engelstad Sioux Center)
- Oct. 30 :: Pink Ribbon Bowl
- o UND football vs. Lamar - 12 p.m. (Alerus Center)
- Oct. 30 :: Pink Ribbon Faceoff
- o UND men's hockey vs. Denver - 7 p.m. (Ralph Engelstad Arena)
All individuals attending these special events are encouraged to wear their pink Sioux Strong t-shirts. The t-shirts are free with a $10 donation to Altru Cancer Center. Through the month of October, shirts will be available at all home football, volleyball, and men's and women's hockey events. They are also available at the UND Memorial Union, Altru Cancer Center, and the Alerus Center ticket office Monday - Friday during normal business hours. Shirts will also be distributed at various community and UND athletics events throughout the month of October.
