UND hosts GWC Tennis Championship this weekend

GRAND FORKS, N.D.--The University of North Dakota will host the inaugural Great West Conference Tennis Championship this weekend at Snookie Register Tennis Complex at Lion's Park in Grand Forks.

Admission to the tournament is free.

The five-team tournament runs May 1-2, and includes top-seeded Chicago State, No. 2 seed New Jersey Institute of Technology, No. 3 seed and host North Dakota, No. 4 seed Texas-Pan American and No. 5 seed South Dakota.

Seeding of the teams are determined by the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings leading up to the championship.

Four preliminary matchups will take place on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. The Fighting Sioux will face NJIT in the prelims at noon. The third-place and championship matches will take place on Sunday, with the championship match scheduled for noon.

The following awards will be presented at the conclusion of the tournament: team champion, championship team members, first team all-conference, second team all-conference, athlete of the year, newcomer of the year, and coach of the year.
