MANHATTAN, Kan. -- North Dakota freshman Samuel Mathew got off to a blistering start at Kansas State's Jim Colbert Invitational and is among the clubhouse leaders after the opening day.
Mathew shot an opening-round 72, then followed with a 74 in the secound round, and is in sixth place with a two-over 146. Just two shots separate Mathew from second place heading into tomorrow's final round.
The Sioux are in fifth place in the team standings with a 605 (302-303), seven shots ahead of sixth-place Northern Colorado.
First-place Idaho shot a 582 and leads second-place Boise State by six shots. BSU's Taeksoo Kim is the clubhouse leader with a five-under 139 (72-67) and was the only golfer in the field of 47 to break par.
Nick Schaefer (Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.) also provided UND with a solid day, carding a seven-over 151 (76-75) to tie for 15th place.
Tomorrow's final round takes place at the Colbert Hills Golf Course.
