ORLANDO, Fla. -- North Dakota defeated Bucknell 6-1 today, closing out the annual Florida spring trip with a fourth straight victory.
UND claimed the doubles point with two hard-fought victories, including a 9-8 win by freshmen Stephanie Petsis and Stephanie Biehn.
"We played our most complete match of
the year with a solid win over a good Bucknell team," said UND coach Tom Wynne. "The Stephanies played
a crucial match fighting off match point to win the doubles point, and get us
going on the right foot. We went 4-2 on the trip and that is better than I expected, so my expectations of just what this team can accomplish have gone
up."
In singles action, the Sioux claimed all but one match. Sophomores Erin Kappers, Hallie Welk and Chelsey Galipeau all picked up victories, as did Biehn and fellow freshman Callie Ronkowski.
UND returns to the road for four matches in Seattle March 24-27.
