POCATELLO, Idaho -- The University of North Dakota soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Idaho State in its second Big Sky Conference match of the season on Friday evening at Davis Field.
“I was very pleased with the way we played today,” head coach Matt Kellogg said. “We talked all week about battling for 90 minutes and working for each other and that's what we did. We created more chances than we have been and limited the dangerous chances ISU was able to produce. The challenge to our young team is to do this again on Sunday against a talented Weber State team.”
While Idaho State outshot UND, 29-5, in the contest, North Dakota limited the quality chances the Bengals had. UND held Idaho State off the scoreboard for the first 85 minutes, but the Bengals' Amanda Ellsworth finally broke the stalemate netting the game's lone goal in the 86th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen made a total of 13 saves in the contest, while ISU's Sheridan Hapsic made three.
UND only had one shot on target in the first half, while getting its other two in the second half. Juliette Austin led UND with a total of two shots, with one on frame.
North Dakota finishes its three-week road stretch on Sunday, Oct. 5, taking on Big Sky foe Weber State at 1 p.m., in Ogden Utah.
