GREELEY, Colo.-- Defending Big Sky Conference Tournament champion Northern Colorado defended home court with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-19 win over North Dakota Saturday evening in league play. The Bears hit .327 in the win.
"Tonight was a rough one, no doubt," UND head volleyball coach Mark Pryor said. "We passed exceptionally well, but we just didn't connect well offensively. It made it really tough to stay with them, we could not put it together.
"For both matches this weekend, there were positives to see. We just need to get back to the gym and see if we can put a whole game plan together. Once we do, we are in great shape."
It was a quick 8-2 start for UNC as it never looked back in the first set, before a 25-16 win. Set two saw a similar start with a 5-1 beginning for the home team for a lead that it again would not relinquish for a quick two sets to none advantage.
Coming out of the intermission, a pair of Kristen Giesbrecht kills book-ended a quick 4-1 spurt for North Dakota to force a Northern Colorado timeout. UNC would later use a 13-5 set-ending run to earn the win and even both team's conference record at 4-4 in the Big Sky North Division.
Chelsea Moser and Faith Dooley led North Dakota with nine kills apiece.
UND (16-9, 4-4 Big Sky) will head back out on the road next week, playing at Northern Arizona and Southern Utah on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
