GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Senior libero McKenzie Hart now stands alone at the top of the University of North Dakota volleyball team's all-time digs list, after breaking the record during UND's sweep of Idaho at Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Thursday night.

Hart notched 24 digs in the match to reach 1,759 for her career, the most of any player in UND history.

“Those are going to be the biggest metaphorical size-eight shoes to fill when she's done,” head coach Mark Pryor said of Hart following the match. “You can have someone that's the heart of the team, and she's kind of our soul. She's kind of the one who gets them going.

“She's kind of the one that gives us a little bit of swagger when those long rallies are going, because everybody knows 'I'm going to be really aggressive blocking because I know Kenzie's back there and she's going to do whatever she can, she's going to contort her body whatever way she has to,' and it might not be good for her body long-term but all she's thinking about is if the ball doesn't hit the floor, you don't score. And she just has that attitude and it's infectious.”

Hart also owns UND's single-season digs record, with 742 so far this season.

Another program first was achieved in the match, as the 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) marks the first time North Dakota has swept the Vandals in school history. The team now stands at 4-0 all-time against Idaho.

“We were relentless,” Pryor said after the win. “We are where we are right now. We're going to make mistakes at times, sometimes at crucial times, but we're not going to be out of stuff. We're going to work hard, good things are going to happen, and that's a team we'll probably play again next week.”

UND improves to 20-12 (8-7 Big Sky), marking its seventh-straight 20-win season, and guarantees itself a record of at least .500 or better in conference play heading into Saturday's regular-season finale.

In the first set, each team took a point off two lengthy rallies to start, but UND quickly jumped out to a 6-2 lead behind three errors from the Vandals and two kills by freshman Courtney Place. The lead stretched to 15-9 before Idaho started to cut in, eventually coming within a point of UND at 17-16.

Two team blocks as well as a kill by junior Chelsea Moser helped North Dakota regain a little bit of a cushion at 22-18, but the Vandals pushed back to make it 22-20. Place ripped off three of the final five points to seal a 25-22 victory in the set for UND.

After Idaho took a 2-0 lead in set two, the two squads remained within a point of each other until the Vandals grabbed an 11-9 edge. Though trailing, UND stayed hot on Idaho's heels, and eventually a service error from the visitors and a Place kill knotted the score up at 16-16.

Coming out of a timeout, the Vandals grabbed the next two points before an attack error brought North Dakota within one once again. The teams then traded service errors, and a kill from Idaho set up a  20-18 advantage for the visiting side.

That was the last point the Vandals would claim in that second set, however, as UND stormed back and ended the set on a 7-0 run to take it, 25-20. A kill from Place and a service ace by Moser tied things up at 20-20, and an attack error on Idaho gave North Dakota its first edge since leading 7-6.

Place and sophomore Faith Dooley teamed up for a block, and Dooley then killed the next two to set up the winning point, which Moser earned off of another service ace.

Ahead 2-0 in the match, UND fell behind early in the third set as the Vandals took five of the first seven points to start. After calling timeout while down 9-5, North Dakota responded by taking the next two points, with a kill from Moser and a service ace from freshman Denae Dominguez.

A block from Dooley and Place pulled UND even at 10-10, and Idaho was forced to call a timeout after a bad set gave North Dakota the 12-11 advantage. The teams grinded it out for the next several points, going back and forth and finding themselves locked in a 17-17 tie.

After that, the Vandals seemed to gain control by taking the next three points, and they eventually built their lead up to 22-19. But yet another comeback was in store for UND, who finished on another big run to finish off the set, 25-22, and sweep Idaho.

With Place serving after an attack error on the Vandals, senior Kristen Giesbrecht pulled UND within one with a kill. Idaho committed a second error coming out of a timeout, and North Dakota closed it out behind a kill from Place and two more from Giesbrecht.

Griffin registered a double-double in the sweep for UND, finishing with 33 assists to lead UND and also collecting 10 digs. Place just missed a double-double as well, with a match-high 14 kills to go along with nine digs.

North Dakota will welcome Eastern Washington to Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Saturday for its regular-season finale. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. (CT), and Senior Day celebrations will take place following the game.
