GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota volleyball team hit a combined .402 in a convincing 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-14, 25-18) of South Dakota State Tuesday in non-conference action at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
UND (3-4) only trailed once in the entire match and it came early in the third set.
The home team finished with only seven attack errors in the match with the foursome of
Faith Dooley (12 kills, 1 error),
Chelsea Moser (10 kills, 0 errors),
Julia Kaczorowska (8 kills, 0 errors) and
Kristen Giesbrecht (6 kills, 0 errors) combining for 36 kills with just two errors and a .531 hitting percentage.
The numbers only got bigger as the match wore on with UND hitting .351 in the first set and then improving to .406 in set two. The final set saw UND jump out to a quick lead and finish with a .455 hit percentage, killing 16 balls on just 33 swings and only one error.
Dooley's kill total set the pace for UND, which needed just 1:22 to dispatch of the Jacks for its third straight sweep over SDSU. Since transitioning to NCAA Division I, North Dakota has defeated SDSU in six of the seven meetings.
Sophomore setter
Sydney Griffin racked up 44 assists and 10 digs for her third double-double of the season. Senior libero
McKenzie Hart again reached the 20-dig mark and she has now done so in all but one match this season.
North Dakota returns to action on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. as Green Bay comes to Grand Forks to open the Buffalo Wild Wings UND Classic.
