FARGO, N.D. - The University of North Dakota saw seven new entries into its top-10 at the Dakota Duel held in The Shelly Ellig Track & Field Facility at North Dakota State Friday afternoon. The well-rounded Fighting Hawks eclipsed top-10 times and marks in the sprints, field, and distance events.
The new entries are of particular significance as five of the seven entries were recorded by newcomers to the Fighting Hawks track & field program.
The women's pentathlon set the Fighting Hawks tempo in the meet as
Erica Benson won the event with 3,401 points, setting the standard for her teammates
Ellie Miller and
Brooklynn Gould, who finished in second and third for a sweep of the event. Making her North Dakota debut, Gould scored 2,899 points to open her career No. 7 on UND's Top-10.
Elle Thorson was close behind in fifth as well.
Aric David,
Ben Hidani, and
Trenton Hanseder entered the men's top-10 in the men's pentathlon, with David and Hanseder making their debuts in the Kelly Green and White. David scored 3,093 points, while Hidani recorded a new personal record at 2,986 points, and Hanseder scored 2,839 to finish sixth.
Jennifer Parent registered a pair of top-three finishes in the jumps, taking runner-up in the pole vault and nearly matching a PR (11-6) with a height of 11-5.75, and finishing third in the long jump at 17-11. Her distance in the long jump moved her into a tie for ninth all-time.
Reigning 400-meter Summit League Champion
Lucy Steinmeyer won the 600-meters at the Dakota Duel, running a PR time of 1:34.68 to hold her spot with the second-fastest time in the event at UND.
In their debuts in the 60-meters and the 3,000-meters,
Carley Johnson and
Patrick Chemomoiet entered their respective all-time lists to start their Fighting Hawk careers with promise.
Johnson became just the ninth woman in UND history to eclipse eight seconds in the 60-meters, clocking a 7.99 to finish third. Chemomoiet was runner-up in the 3,000-meters behind reigning Summit League Champion Alex Bartholomay as he ran 8:36.75 to begin his career seventh all-time in the event.
The 3,000-meter race also featured third and fourth place finishers for North Dakota in newcomer
Silvestre Kibarar and
Luke Labatte. Kibarar just missed a top-10 time with his 8:42.79 while Labatte clocked an 8:43.72.
In the throws,
Destinee Rose-Haas made her return to the UND indoor roster after redshirting a season ago, taking third in the women's weight throw with a mark of 59-1.75 (18.03m).
