SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - For the first time in its Summit League history, the University of North Dakota has swept the track & field weekly awards as
Chris Evenson (thrower),
Luke Labatte (track),
Destinee Rose-Haas (thrower), and
Lucy Steinmeyer (track) earned the honors. These are the first weekly honors for each student-athlete.
Against a field comprised of Big Ten, SEC, and Big 12 foes, the Fighting Hawks quartet recorded brand new personal-records to move up on their respective top-10's at the Mizzou Spring Opener.
Evenson paved the way for the group, setting a new school record in the shot put with a mark of 58-10. The Valders, Wis., native moved up from the No. 10 spot to the No. 1 spot with his over 4.5-foot improvement in the event, surpassing former teammate
Michael Quesenberry's record of 58-6 set in 2018.
Rose-Haas recorded a pair of top-three finishes in the hammer and discus throws, including a new PR in the hammer to move into sixth all-time in the event. Tossing the implement 182-3, the Baldwin, Wis., native finished third in the hammer while taking runner-up honors in the discus with a distance of 175-3.
In his outdoor 5,000-meter debut, Labatte moved into third all-time at North Dakota with a time of 14:52.58 to finish sixth in the race. Labatte's time is the fastest for the men's outdoor program since 2016 and just the sixth sub-15 minute time in UND history.
Steinmeyer won the 200-meters at Mizzou with a 24.63 to move up to second all-time in the Fighting Hawks annals. Later that afternoon, the Lübeck, Germany native finished second in the 400-meters to post the third-fastest time in UND's top-10 and just the third sub-55 second time in North Dakota outdoor history.
UND will return to action on April 2 and 3 when it heads to Vermillion, S.D., for the USD Early Bird at the Lillibridge Track Complex at the University of South Dakota.
