ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. - North Dakota women's golf tied 7-7 to end the rain-shortened Tommie Cup Matches in a draw.
On the first day of the Tommie Cup Matches, UND took the 4.5 to 2.5 lead. Earning a point each for the Fighting Hawks were
Kianna Novacek,
Pemika Ponlamuangdee, Emersyn Walker and
Kalai Hamlin as they all won their matches to open competition.
Morgan Hetletved ended the first day in a tie to bring in half a point for North Dakota.
Heading into the second day with the lead, the Fighting Hawks looked to extend it, but the matches were cut short due to weather. Hetletved and
Carrie Carpenter pulled in two more points for UND while Novacek tied to place them at seven points.
Head Coach Travis Amendt Comments
"St. Thomas came out firing and hit us hard right out of the gate. Hats off to them as they have great players and are well-coached! For us to pull out a tie showed our character and resiliency in adversity. We will build off this and work on bringing the Hanneman Cup back to Grand Forks."
Morgan Hetletved Comments
"Ending in a tie isn't quite how we drew it up as a team, but with it being October, the weather can lead to a lot of uncertainty. I think we were all ready to put the pedal down and take advantage of what we are given. Fortunately, we are definitely ready for next year and excited to get another chance to take home the trophy."
