MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team fell, 4-3, in a tightly-contested match to UIC on Saturday afternoon from the Elite Sports Club in Milwaukee, Wis.

UND (3-6) ends the weekend with a split after picking up a win over Marquette in the opening on Friday by a 5-2 score before falling the finale today.

The Flames jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the doubles courts, grabbing a pair of victories on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. The duo of Charlotte Bowles and Jule Schulte picked up a big win for the Fighting Hawks at the bottom spot to prevent the shutout in two-person play.

Moving into singles, Sapir Sela knotted the match at 1-1 with a pair of 6-2 triumphs at the No. 2 court to give her back-to-back wins on the weekend, but UIC answered back with a victory at the fifth position to restore the lead.

Trailing by one, North Dakota tied it up again with some strong tennis from Nore Heinitz, who also closed out a perfect weekend in singles play with a 7-5, 6-2 win on the No. 3 court to bring the score level at 2-2. UIC charged back once again, however, capturing a pair of wins at the sixth and fourth spots to clinch the match and take the overall victory.

UND would not go down without a fight, as Nyah Kauders grabbed a win from the top court by rallying back after a 6-4 defeat in the opening set to post a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over the next two stanzas to grab the third point of the day for the green and white.

North Dakota returns home to battle Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 from Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks.
