CHENEY, Wash. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team wrapped up a three-match week with a 4-3 win over Eastern Washington on Saturday afternoon from Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.
UND (7-9) rallied from a 3-2 deficit in singles action to post a pair of victories on the bottom courts to complete the comeback and end the week strong in the final nonconference match of the season.
In doubles action, the Fighting Hawks jumped in front with two wins on the No. 1 and 3 courts to grab a 1-0 lead.
Angela Georgieva and
Jule Schulte notched the first triumph of the afternoon by a 6-1 score from the bottom spot before the top duo of
Sapir Sela and
Andrea Jansson sealed the strong start for the visitors with a 6-3 win.
Eastern Washington grabbed the lead for the first time in the match with back-to-back wins on the No. 1 and 4 courts to open singles play and move in front, 2-1, but Sela knotted the score at 2-2 following a 6-3, 6-4 triumph from the second spot.
After the Eagles pushed the match into a clinching position with another singles win, UND responded with Schulte (6-3, 6-3) and Georgieva (6-3, 6-2) pulling out victories on the No. 5 and 6 courts to complete the comeback and seal the 4-3 win.
North Dakota jumps back into conference play next weekend with a trip to Omaha on Friday afternoon.
