FARGO, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's golf team opened the fall portion of its 2023-24 season at the NDSU Fall Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday from Oxbow Country Club in Fargo, N.D.
As a team, UND finished the 36-hole outing with a team score of 327 (+63) to finish fourth out of the four teams competing, all from the Summit League. After having to battle the tough weather elements on Tuesday, the Fighting Hawks bounced back on Wednesday by shaving 15 strokes off of their team score and were highlighted by some strong individual performances.
In her first out as a collegiate golfer,
Kylie Warner paced the Fighting Hawks with a pair of 79's to finish in a tie for 10th and record her first top-10 finish in the green and white. The rookie sank a trio of birdies in the opening round, including a pair of par-3 holes, before reaching par on 11 holes on Wednesday to close out her strong weekend.
Emersyn Walker nearly carded a top-10 performance of her own, but just finished outside in a tie for 12th with a 159 (+15) overall score. The sophomore had the second-best 18-hole round of the tournament for UND, rebounding from a tough opening day to post a 77 in the final round. The day was highlighted by a trio of birdies, including back-to-back on the 11th and 12th holes.
Joy Callinan finished right behind her teammate, sitting just one shot back at 160 (+16) to finish in a tie for 13th and finish just one stroke behind her career-best score for a 36-hole event. The senior had the best round among Fighting Hawks, finishing out her tournament with a 76 on Wednesday.
Lily Bredemeier also made her UND debut after transferring to the program from Northern Iowa, as the Grand Forks, N.D., native finished in a tie for 18th with a score of 162 (+18). Six other NoDak golfers also competed, but did not count towards the team scores.
North Dakota returns to the course on Sept. 11-12 for the Tracy Lane Memorial Golf Tournament from the Bemidji Town & Country Club in Bemidji, Minn.
