PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The University of North Dakota women's golf team closed out the first tournament of the championship portion of the season on Wednesday at the GCU Invitational from the GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.
As a team, the Fighting Hawks fired a 308 over the final 18 holes to finish the tournament with a 902 (+38) to sit in 19th out of 21 teams. New Mexico State captured both the team and individual titles, while Grand Canyon, Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside and Montana State rounded out the top-5 in the team scores.
Emersyn Walker continued her strong tournament and paced UND over the final 18 holes with a 73 to finish the week tied for 64th with a 224 (+8). After sinking a trio of eagles over the opening 36 holes, Walker carded three birdies on the back-9 on Wednesday to sit tied for the team lead.
Erin Johnson matched Walker's three-round score to also sit tied for 64th overall with a 224 (+8) to finish as the highest scorers of the tournament for the Fighting Hawks.
Lily Bredemeier matched her opening 18-hole score of 77 once again on Wednesday, including an impressive birdie on the par-3 11th, to finish tied for 85th at 228 (+12).
Freshman
Kylie Warner (232, +16) and senior
Joy Callinan (237, +21) rounded out the scoring for NoDak, finishing tied for 96th and 112th, respectively.
North Dakota returns to the course March 11-12 for the Jackrabbit Invitational from Boulder City, Nev.
