MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The University of North Dakota women's golf team completed its second tournament of the fall season at the Powercat Invitational, hosted by Kansas State, on Tuesday evening from Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, Kan.
For the second straight week, weather played a critical role in the outcome for the Fighting Hawks, with winds causing problems over the first two rounds of action. UND was able to improve as the event wore on, chopping eight strokes off its second round score before shaving another six off in Tuesday's finale to finish the tournament in 12th with a 944 (+80) overall score. Host Kansas State finished as the tournament champions and the only program to finish under-par, capturing the title by 20 strokes at 860 (-4) while Carla Bernat of K-State captured the individual crown at 208 (-8).
Sophomore Kylie Warned paced the green and white for the tournament, finishing tied for 48th with a 237 (+21). The Palmdale, Calif., native just missed a personal best round in the middle frame, carding a 74 (+2) to tie for the 10th best score of the round.
Lily Bredemeier and
Nikki Bowen finished right behind Warner, with the duo each finishing with a 238 (+22) to tie for 52nd. Both improved as the event wore on, with Bredemeier jumping seven spots on the leaderboard with her final round of 77 (+5) and Bowen leaping 15 places with a 73 (+1) over her final 18 holes to finish her first-career 54-hole event.
Erin Johnson battled the wind and also improved her score as the event wore on to finish tied for 59th with a 240 (+24) while
Emersyn Walker rounded out the scoring for the Fighting Hawks with a 244 (+28) to finish 68th.
North Dakota will enjoy a few weeks off before heading to Seattle for the Harbottle Invitational beginning on Sept. 30 from Tacoma Country Club.
