SILVIS, Ill. -- The University of North Dakota women's golf team put together a strong showing at the WIU Intercollegiate, hosted by Western Illinois, from TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. in the two-day, three-round event on Friday and Saturday.
It was a banner weekend for UND, as the Fighting Hawks captured the team and individual titles as well as another medalist honor to nearly sweep the podium. As a team, UND finished with a score of 915 (+63) to earn the overall team title by nine strokes over second place Northern Iowa while sophomore
Kylie Warner took home the individual crown and second top-5 finish of the season with a 221 (+8).
The sophomore was at her best over the opening 18 holes, firing a 69 (-2) to record the only round in the 60's by a competitor over the entire 54-hole event while also setting a new career-low score for an 18-hole round. Warner then held off a late charge from WIU's Olivia Kerr by shooting par on two of her final three holes to capture the top honors by one shot.
Fellow sophomore
Gigi Lund also had a career-best performance, shaving seven strokes off her previous career-low and carding a 224 (+11) to earn medalist honors and finish third. The finish is the highest of the career for Lund, while also recording her third top-10 placement of her career and second this season.
Five-other Hawks also finished among the top-20, with
Emersyn Walker and
Erin Johnson leading the way by each scoring a 238 (+25) to finish tied for 13th.
Lily Bredemeier and
Annika Jyrkas also shared a spot on the leaderboard at 18th with a 243 (+30) while
Riley Crothers rounded out the top-20 at 244 (+31).
Lindsay Astrup (254, +41),
Jaya Grube (257, +44) and
Kalai Hamlin (266, +53) rounded out the scoring for UND by finishing 26th, 28th and 32nd, respectively.
UND gets right back into action on Monday at the Stampede at the Creek from Elkhorn, Neb.
