GRAND FORKS, N.D. ? The Fighting Sioux women's soccer team dominated scoring in the first half to give them a 5-1 win over Jamestown College. UND is now 4-1-0 on the season.
UND jumped out in an early lead when sophomore Haley Oase (Minot, N.D.) scored an unassisted goal at 6:53. Becca Krynski (Rapid City, S.D.) assisted in on UND's second goal of the day, connecting with sophomore Megan Tracy (Bismarck, N.D), who scored her third goal on the season. Four minutes later, senior Stacy Pappas (Bloomington, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season, giving UND a 3-0 lead over the Jimmies.
With less than six minutes left in the first period, Fighting Sioux sophomore Lauren Herrmann (Eagan, Minn.) assisted a goal to sophomore Sarah Penner (Winnipeg, Man.). Twelve seconds later, it was Penner who assisted Herrmann with her third goal of the season, the final goal for UND in the game. The Fighting Sioux ended the period with a 5-0 lead.
Jamestown College added one to the board in the second period when Maria Lammi scored an unassisted goal at 59:27. The Fighting Sioux went on to win the game, 5-1.
Lauren Sera (Winnipeg, Man.) received the win for UND. In net for the Jimmies was Angela Veches.
Next up, the Fighting Sioux hit the road to take on Minnesota State University-Moorhead for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Sept. 9.
Notes: Tracy, Herrmann and Mandi Boehmer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) each have three goals on the season ... The Fighting Sioux are 4-0-0 when playing at Bronson Field ... UND outshot Jamestown 18-6 on the day ... UND's next home again is against Augustana on Sept. 28.
