GRAND FORKS, N.D.--The Fighting Sioux women's golf team is ranked No. 21 in the nation according to the first Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II Coaches' Poll of the spring season.
UND, which placed second at the North Central Conference Championship last fall, received 54 points in the poll and is tied for 21st with NCC rival Minnesota State. The Sioux enter the spring season looking for a repeat appearance at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship, where they placed sixth in 2007, the best finish in program history.
Florida Southern jumped back into the top spot in the poll after winning the Lady Moc Classic to open the spring season-its fourth victory of the 2007-08 season.
Rounding out the top-five are Ferris State (No. 3), Grand Valley State (No. 4) and Tarleton State (No. 5).
UND and MSU are two of four NCC schools appearing in the top 25, joining No. 16 Nebraska-Omaha and No. 20 Augustana.
The Sioux, under second-year head coach Dan Frei, open the spring season March 28-29 at the Augustana Spring Invitational.
