OKOJOBI, Iowa--The Fighting Sioux women's golf team is in seventh place after the opening round of the two-day, 10-team Okojobi Invitational, hosted by the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
UND shot a team total of 348 at the Spencer Golf and Country Club and trails first-place Upper Iowa by 20 strokes. Host UNO is in second place with a 338.
Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt leads the field heading into tomorrow's final round after firing a five-over 77. She leads teammate Jill Preeshl and Concordia-St. Paul's Molly Noser by four shots.
Sophomore Kristi Lucken (Fosston, Minn.) was the top performer for the Sioux during today's opening round, carding a 12-over 84, good for 10th place.
Senior Natalie Ruppert (Minot, N.D.) shot a 15-over 87 and is tied for 20th place while junior Kelli Dahle (Bemidji, Minn.) recorded an 88 and is tied for 88th.
Sophomore Amanda Kaler (Fargo, N.D.) and freshman Molly Martin (Ramsey, Minn.) are the other two members of UND's team entry. Kaler is tied for 36th with an 89 and Martin is tied for 44th with a 92.
The Sioux also have a pair of participants competing as individuals. Freshman Lauryn Job (Minnetonka, Minn.) is tied for 40th with a 90, and junior Kayla Hoerth (Lakota, N.D.) is tied for 60th with a 106.
Tomorrow's final round will be played at the Emerald Hills Golf Club with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
