SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--North Dakota junior Kristi Lucken opened the 2008 fall golf season in sparkling fashion, leading from start to finish on her way to medalist honors at the Augustana Fall Invitational today at Bakker's Crossing Golf Course.
Lucken entered the clubhouse after yesterday's opening round with a two-shot lead and held off a second-round push today by runner-up Lisa Moline of Minnesota State. Lucken, a Fosston, Minn., native, carded a five-over-par 76 today, good enough to edge Moline by a single stroke. It was the second tournament victory of Lucken's career and first since winning the Cobber Invite last Sept. 7.
Lucken finished the two-day event with an eight-over 150 (74-76) and helped lead the Sioux to a fourth-place finish in the team standings.
UND combined to shoot a 323 during today's final round in finishing with a two-day 640, 13 shots behind first-place Concordia-St. Paul.
Aside from Lucken, freshman Chivas Beaudoin (Dickinson, N.D.) was the only other Sioux to crack 80 during today's action.Competing in her first collegiate event, Beaudoin recorded a 78, a five-shot improvement from day one, and tied for 13th with a 19-over 161 (83-78).
Teammates Kelli Dahle (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Amanda Kaler (Sr., Fargo, N.D.) tied for 24th place after each finished with a 166.
Sophomore Molly Martin (Ramsey, Minn.) tied for 27th with a 25-over 167 (82-85), while classmate Lauryn Job (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished 42nd with a 177 (91-86).
In addition two Beaudoin, two other Sioux freshmen made their collegiate debuts. Abby Rueter (Sartell, Minn.) shaved one stroke off of her opening round and tied for 48th with a 179 (90-89), while Shaynna Mann (Dickinson, N.D.) tied for 48th with a 183 (87-96).
