GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- The University of North Dakota soccer team jumped out to a 1-0 lead at Bronson Field today, but two unanswered goals allowed Nebraska Omaha to slip past the Sioux 2-1. UND drops to 2-5-1 on the season while its home record evens out at 1-1.

Junior Rhaya Ballon (Rogers, Minn.) scored her third goal of the season to put the Mavericks (3-2-2) in an early deficit in the 30th minute. Senior Rachael Loomis placed the ball in front of the net to find Ballon and connect for her third assist of the season and team-leading ninth point.

UNO answered to even the game shortly after as Sarah Nordstrom found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, sending the game into the half locked at 1-1.

Danielle Archuletta gave the Mavericks the lead, scoring the eventual game-winner, as she drove home a rebound after UND netminder Kristi Hestdalen made a point-blank save on a first shot by Hilary Jackson.

The Sioux were unable to answer although gaining plenty of pressure on UNO goalkeeper Katelyn Tschida.

In an already fast-paced game, the intensity picked up from UND after falling behind.  The Sioux outshot the Mavericks 21-12, but only forced Tschida (3-2-2) to make five saves, sending multiple scoring opportunities wide or high of the net and one shot off the crossbar. Hestdalen (2-4-1) answered with five saves on seven shots on goal.

Loomis led the Sioux with seven shots while Ballon attempted five.

UND returns to Bronson Field on Sunday to host future Big Sky opponent Montana (3-4-0) at noon.
