Gulf Shores, Ala. - The North Dakota women's golf team saved its best round of the fall for its final one on Tuesday, shooting a 310 (+22) during the closing day of the UAB Fall Beach Blast at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club.
Paced by a pair of collegiate-best rounds from senior Mikki Kromy and junior Olivia Knutson, UND was eight strokes better than Monday's opening round (318; +30). Knutson and Kromy both shot a 76 (+4), while Sadie Martin added a 77 (+5) to aid in the team's low round of the season to date.
Kromy and Martin both made a pair of birides on their cards, while Knutson made 13 pars en route to her best round as a collegian. The Bemidji State transfer's best round of the season had been an 80 in the final round of the Coyote Classic.
Kromy's 76 matched her career-best fired in the final round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Denver on Oct. 12. Fellow co-captain Amanda Fairweather rounded out the team's scoring with an 81 (+9).
Houston Baptist pulled away from a tightly-compacted team leaderboard with a final round 288 (E) to capture the overall title by seven strokes. Second thru fourth places were separated by two strokes as Sam Houston State (591; +15) took second, West Florida (592; +16) took third and round-one leader Western Kentucky (593; +17) dropped to fourth.
UND resumes its season in the spring with the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz.
