Detroit Lakes, Minn. - The North Dakota women's golf team was the runner-up at the Cobber Open for the second consecutive season, carding a team score of 316 (+28) during the 18-hole event at the Wildflower Golf Club. Senior captain
Amanda Fairweather paced the team with a 77 (+5) to tie for third and post her best career finish in four tries at the tournament.
For Fairweather, it was her best round since early in her sophomore campaign and three strokes better than any round during her junior season.
Sadie Martin was only a shot behind in fifth place as she opened her junior season with a 78 (+6).
"I thought it was a good start to the season," UND head coach
Natalie Martinson said. "Amanda had a solid round today and had been practicing well, so it was nice to see that translate to competition.
"Overall, we still had too many big numbers, but I like where we are as a team right now heading into our first multiple-round event next weekend."
Senior
Mikki Kromy carded an 80 (+8) and sophomore
Alexis Guggisberg shot an 81 (+9) to round out the scoring for the five-member Green and White team. Six other UND golfers played as individuals and
Emma Kishel led that group with an 86 (+14).
