Biography

A native of Bismarck, N.D., Dr. Wade Alan Ritter came to UND in the fall of 1987 and was a four-year letterwinner in swimming between 1988 and 1991.

In his four years with the Fighting Sioux, Ritter led the team to four successive NCC championships. Ritter swam the 50 and 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay and earned three individual championships. He was the team captain his junior year.

Ritter was named the NCC swimmer of the year in 1991, earned 18 All-American honors, was a member of the All-Academic Team in 1989 and NCC at-large Academic Team in 1991.

His 18 All-American honors are tied for the third-most among any men's swimmer in UND school history.

During Ritter's four years at UND, the Sioux won the North Central Conference team championship four times, and at the NCAA Division II national championship meet, the Sioux finished eighth, eighth, sixth and ninth.

Ritter received a bachelor's degree from UND in 1991. After leaving UND, Ritter went on to medical school. He spent 1993-98 in Chicago for his residency and then moved to Baltimore, Md., where he formed his current partnership with Podiatry Associates in 1988. He is currently a doctor of podiatric medicine.

He says his UND education helped him create a good work ethic.

Ritter currently resides with his wife Sharon and children Parker, Chase and Mason in Catonsville, Md.

Ritter lists his hobbies as mountain biking and running.
